Kourtney Kardashian’s Diet is Almost 100 Years Old: Here’s Why It Works
Kourtney Kardashian has tried all sorts of diets and has been very candid about it. She’s always ahead of the latest trends and always stays fit and healthy. And recently, Kourtney shared that she had a really positive experience on the ketogenic diet. Kourtney was on the keto diet for a few months when she found out she had elevated levels of mercury and lead in her system.
What is the Ketogenic Diet

You’ve probably heard of the keto diet because it seems everyone’s doing it. The keto diet seems to be the go-to diet of all the movers and shakers. From Halle Berry, Tim Tebow, and LeBron James, it seems that everyone is jumping on the new keto bandwagon you may be surprised to learn that this trendy diet is not new at all. In fact, this was a popular diet created back in the 1920s to treat pediatric seizures. Children who suffered from epilepsy were placed on a ketogenic diet to reduce their seizures.
Similar to the Atkins and Paleo diets, the ketogenic or keto diet is a high-fat, low-carb diet that has the ultimate goal of putting your body into ketosis. When your body goes into ketosis it essentially is burning fat instead of sugar to produce energy. Since the body doesn’t have enough glucose to produce energy, it goes into the stored fat deposits. This burn-up of stored fats result in acids called ketones. Because of this, most people will experience rapid weight loss. Losing 5-8 pounds in a week is not uncommon.
If you’re planning on going on the Keto diet, there are 3 things you should consider.

The ketogenic diet is considered a highly restrictive diet that requires certain considerations before you commit to it.
- You should ease into it slowly. As with any major dietary change, you should do your research and introduce it slowly. The reason for this is that the Ketogenic diet can give you side effects that mimic the flu. This is known as the “Keto Flu.” Because you’re shocking your body by drastically changing your eating patterns and sending it into ketosis, you may experience tired, weak limbs, fatigue, and mental fogginess.
- Requires planning meals. If you’re thinking of going keto, you’ll need to be organized and plan your meals. Thinking ahead and being prepared will help you not to fall off the bandwagon and stay on track with your weight loss goals.
- You may do intermittent fasting. Since the Keto diet helps curb your appetite you may notice that you’re not as hungry as before you started the regimen. It is easier to skip meals or to do a fast.
Some of the ways that Kourtney was able to stick to the diet was by incorporating food impostors such as broccoli or cauliflower to substitute for rice. She would add lean proteins like fish and chicken. Avocado and banana smoothies helped her feel satiated. For breakfast, she would add protein and collagen powder to water to help keep her feeling full.
Kourtney would also do the intermittent fasting by not eating anything past 7:00 p.m. or before 10:30 a.m.
The Keto Diet Works
The diet has experienced a resurgence and has gotten a boost from all the Hollywood celebrities who swear by it. Kourtney reveals it was a very positive experience and she plans to do it again in the near future. Like any diet, make sure you consult with your doctor before you start since there are always risks depending on your physical condition.
The Keto diet definitely works if your goal is quick weight loss. And that’s encouraging for most of us who want to look good and want to do it quickly. But like most diets, the Keto is a very restrictive system that should only be done for a few months at a time. After which, you should go back to a healthful, balanced diet and incorporate light to moderate exercise.
